The Athletic Director also came to speak to us tonight. He talked about the fact that athletes at NU are truly students first.
He also stated that it was his goal to have all sports achieve the success of NU football (2 consecutave Big 10 championships) of the early 1990s.
He also fielded many questions about the athletic programs at NU. Some ideas discussed were adding night games, adding a student appreciation game (free admission for all students), adding a fee paid by all students to give all students access to all games without additional ticket costs.
This evening at ASG the chief of police came to speak to us. Rather than explain how many more police officers etc. were now in place, he instead spoke about some of the underlying reasons why some of this recent spat of violence and racism bothers us so much. He asked that we all attempt to build community, which he claims will help to limit the number of attacks on campus.
When asked by David Kim, "What can we do, as student leaders, to help with the security on campus?" he responded that "Too many" of the victims of these crimes were under the influence of alcohol. He suggested that as a student body, we need to work to limit the consumption of alcohol.
He also stated that the Evanston police have identified 2 individuals, and that the University police have detained one suspect, a minor.
